Help us change the conversation around homelessness.

We have BIG plans for 2022!

Mission Statement

Our general mission is to end LGBTQIA youth homelessness. We provide access to safe housing, employment, financial practices, medical needs, educational needs, supportive government needs and general life skills. We accomplish this mission by bringing vetted individuals to group homes attended by house managers and mentoring them over time. The residents we place must adhere to strict living standards and practices as established by the operator of the home, which serves to stabilize and support them.

Almost two years ago, near the end of 2019, Sherlock’s Homes Foundation was born from a wild idea: What if we could use real estate to do something impactful? How can we create real and lasting social change?

In January 2020, we were just starting to get organized and established. We began the process of applying for 501c3 status and opened our first home in Boca Raton, Florida, giving sanctuary to 4 LGBTQ+ young adults at any one time.

Then, there was March of 2020. We were faced with some brand new (and often scary) challenges in keeping our new residents safe and healthy. Of course, housing insecurity doesn’t take a break because of a global pandemic. The need for safe and stable homes grew as the pandemic continued, and the number of homeless families increased nationally by 1%. That may not seem like a big number, but it is - over half a million MORE people are now living homeless in the U.S. during Covid.

And so our mission to end LGBTQ homelessness continued.

2021 brought the opportunity to expand across the U.S. Traveling on our converted school bus, we found homes in Richmond, Virginia, and Raleigh, North Carolina. We also began repairs on one of our homes in Colorado. These new homes will allow us to serve up to 30 new residents by providing clean, safe, sober living to help them all get on their feet.

We dream big here at Sherlock’s Homes. Our goal towards being in every state by 2025 is still in the forefront of our mission. We know that this important work would be impossible without the generosity of our donors, and we’re asking for your continued support on Giving Tuesday. We absolutely need to rely on your generosity to help us reach those goals, and raising $15,000 by the end of 2021 will ensure we are able to do the most good in a short amount of time.

With that amount, we can cover our most pressing end of year needs: fixing our poor bus, finishing some repairs for our Colorado home, and ensuring all our residents stay well-fed and warm through the winter. Once those are taken care of, we can move towards our 2022 goal of opening more homes.

Please show your support with a donation this #GivingTuesday. Get the word out. Ask your family and friends to give. And share, like, and post about our work on social media.

Let’s continue changing the conversation around homelessness, together.

Thank you in advance,

Jacob Jennings and the Sherlock's Homes Team
